There is more than one doll on the page so please scroll all the way down.

""Neda" The Gypsy Dancer"

This is a OOAK (one of a kind) doll. Neda is the first in a series of dolls I'm creating.  She will not be duplicated.   Please click on the photo thumbnails for larger views.

neda1.jpg Neda10.jpg Neda11.jpg Neda12.jpg Neda13.jpg

She is a very large doll measuring 44 inches from head to toe or 34 inches in her sitting position.  She has been completely needle felted right down to her bright red nails that extend beyond the tips of her fingers.  Her head was sculpted with a felting needle.  There is absolutely no fabric or thread in her head with the acception of the thread that was used to attach her hair locks (which is also made from Merino wool, and different yarns for highlights).  Each color of her eyes were added one by one with a felting needle.

Neda23.jpg Neda24.jpg Neda25.jpg Neda3.jpg Neda5.jpg

I used no paints anywhere on Neda.  Every inch of her coloring is wool roving that was dyed prior to applying it to the doll.

The torso, arms, and legs were made with fabric and then they were sewn, stuffed, and assembled together.  Then the torso and limbs were needle felted.

Needle felting is a process in which you take wool roving pieces and stab it over and over with a felting needle until the fibers entangle to create one mass.  It is a very long process and takes many hours of work.  I started with a small ball of polyester batting and started adding bits and pieces of wool roving layer after layer and shaped it with the needle to created a three dimensional sculpture.

Her eyes were given eyelashes which were rooted (yes with the felting needle) and they are also made from wool roving.  Her eyes are shades of green with a highlight of white and her lips are red, large, and very ethnic.

Neda's outfit was made entirely out of seed beads and was made just for her.  It took around 18 hours just to string the beads on to the thread.  There is approximately 33 yards of seed beads on this doll.  Then I got to make the costume which was the fun part.  The beads were strung by hand because there was a pattern of different colors that I thought would look nice together, so the use of a bead spinner wasn't an option.

Neda's arms and legs are jointed and yes so is her head and it can be turned 360 degrees.

Her hair can be worn in different styles and she will come with her hair accesories (flowers and two different hair ties.).

Her forehead, chest, and belly button are embellished with beads and she wears two bracelets and a set of earrings (the earrings are removable and can be worn by the person who gives her a home.).

Neda is very blue and purple! (I like blue and purple I guess........a lot!)

There are many pictures below and the last pictures show the irredescense and colors of the different beads used.

This dolly took over a month to make but it was more and more inspiring as Neda evolved.

I am in the process of making more needle felted and sculpted dolls and if anybody has any questions please let me know, I answer all emails

Ainchamama 2    This doll is 20 inches from head to toe and is soft and squishy.  Her hair is red and gold with sprinkles of black and gold glitter.  Her skirt is made from hand dyed cheesecloth and is embellished with gourd chips and lots of beads (some are handmade) and shells and a couple of other things.

Ainchamama 3Her bra was made from two little gourds that were decorated colored with leather dyes and sealed with acrylic.

She wears many real "seed" beads around her neck and her earings are wood beads.    There is a bracelet on her wrist that have glass and wood beads.

Ainchamama 4She also caries a small gourd to hold her valuables.  The contents of the purse will only be revealed to the owner of her.  This little gourd purse also doubles as a functional, wearable necklace for it's owner.  It is just the right size for your daily medication or could carry a cottonball dipped in vanilla.  It is very lightweight and is perfect for a fall ensamble

"Skeleton Woman..The Transformation"

This is a set of OOAK (one of a kind) dolls.  It is named "Skeleton Woman..The Transformation".  There are three dolls in this set.

When I was asked to make these dolls it started out as a one doll project.  When the first doll was complete I was asked to make 2 more.  They were supposed to evoke an evolutionary process from the first doll to the third doll.   The first doll was supposed to be fabric and had to show that it was somehow skeletal.   It also had to have wings.

The dolls were made with a penne fabric that was originally white.  Fabric paints were used to add color.  I will update this page in a couple of days (today is 05-28-05)
