Gourd Art Doll Tutorial

Welcome to page 3 of the Gourd Art Doll Pin Tutorial

Page 3 of 3

Add finishing fabric to back.Get out the pieces that you cut out of the fabric.

This will be used to cover any sharp wire edges on the back of your doll that may come in contact with your clothes.

The fabric also serves as a finishing touch that looks more professional.

Back glued in place.Choose which side of the fabric or leather you would like to put against the back of your doll.

I use the shiny side of the leather as the side that will go against the doll because I like the softness of the suede side so this is the side I will be able to see.

Put some Fabri-Tac glue on the back of the fabric or leather and carefully place it on the back of your doll.  Be careful that you don't get glue on the pipe cleaners.  Now clamp the pieces in place with a couple of clothes pins until the glue is dry (about 15 minutes).

Bar pin. This is a very small pin back (about 3/4 of an inch)  There are many different kinds to choose from.  I don't like the plated kind because the plating has a tendency to peel off.  I like the solid nickel silver bar pins.

Swatch to cover bar pin.Measure the inside length of the bar pin to find out how wide your covering fabric has to be and cut out a small swatch of leather or fabric to cover your bar pin.

Putting fabric in place on bar pin. Here is an example of the bar pin being covered with leather.  Notice that the shiny side of the leather is facing you, this is the part that will be attached down onto your gourd doll back.

Put some Fabri-Tac glue on this strip and place this face down on your doll's back.  You can also sew the bar pin on for greater stability.

Finished back and bar pin in place. This is what the back of our "Gourd Art Doll Pin" looks like with the bar pin in place.

The back of our pin is finished and looks good.  Now we get to do a little embellishing on the front.

Fabritac glue. This is the glue I use to add beads and other adornments to my projects.  It is called "527" and it is another favorite of mine.

To use it more efficiently with the least amount of waste I tape a straight pin to the side of the tube and when I want a little glue I stab the tube with the pin and just a little comes out of the hole.  This way is better than opening the lid because it has a tendency to keep coming out and you will waste a lot of glue this way.  The hole from the pin will self seal also.

Priscilla is ready to wear!Use a toothpick and apply 527 glue to some small glass beads and place them on your doll to add some decoration and personality.

The last step is to string some seed beads and make her (or him) a necklace.

Well, what do you think?!!  She looks pretty zany to me and this doll is ready for a night out on the town with me.  Just pin her on and she (or he) is ready to go!!

Thank you for visiting "Abnormal Arts"...Tutorials.  As time permits I will make more tutorials.
